1941 Pontiac Station Wagon (RI) - $87,000CUSTOM WOODY STATION WAGONExterior Mariner BlueInterior Tan vinylTransmission ManualEngine V-6There were approximately 1,000 built out of a total production that year of over 330,000 Pontiacs. Reference Automobile Quarterly article (Vol. 36, Number 2 Feb, 1997) where they estimated that fewer than 15 Pontiac woodies from 41 remain as of 2011 there were 9 registered in the National Woodie Club. So, while all real woodies are pretty rare, 41 Pontiacs are not seen very often. For many, 1941 is also a desirable year perhaps the most desirable of the 40s. This car is build on the C-body, with the 122-inch wheelbase. If one compares the length of the front doors with other subsequent years, they are substantially longer and dont have the precipitous cut off look on the front edge of the door. This one is a Standard, with the third rear seat not found on Deluxe models. It is also a six cylinder, with a stock L head engine. The painted surfaces are Marlboro Blue, which is a deep rich blue color that contrasts stunningly with the light ash framing and mahogany inserts of the Hercules body. By any measure, it makes for a beautiful woodie and one also with indisputably the best backside in the whole of woodiedom (see photo). The car is perfect. Thats not hype everything works on the car just like when it was new. Ive owned the car for a dozen years or so and done everything I could to make it the best it can be including new paint, added a heater, replaced a clutch and a camshaft where a lobe had gone flat and rebuilt the radio. When I got the car first gear had a chip in it, so we also rebuilt the transmission and put in all new seals and bearings. In the spirit of full disclosure the only two flaws I can find is that 1) the clock is not hooked up because it runs down the battery and 2) theres a small crack in the passenger side windshield at the very top left. Ive never driven it to see if could still hit its advertised top speed of 82 miles per hour, but Ive had it to 70 and shes floats down the road like a queen. No oil burning, no overheating, no problems. Since I dont run the car that often, I also added an electric fuel pump to reduce cranking getting fuel from back to front after a long pause in driving. The car has been stored in my classic car garage facility located in Portsmouth RI. The facility is temperature and humidity controlled. The car is seen outside only on perfect days!In the years owning the car, Ive also collected literature, brochures, accessory catalog, owners manual and repair manuals. There also a car cover that comes with it. Over the years also, the car has been entered into a variety of car shows and concours events where it typically will win an award of one kind or the other. With all of the above stated as forthrightly as I can, I have to add the standard disclaimers that the car is being sold As Is with no warranty. Im happy to answer any questions and you can visit the car anytime at its Portsmouth location, however, ask or visit only if youre seriously interested in this car. This vehicle is located in Portsmouth RI 02871.Please call Steve @ 401-683-0660 to see this custom wagon.
